This is a series of black and white photographs that where made at night, or in the twilight hours, during the cold winter months in Western Pennsylvania. This was an effort to re-capture that feeling I had as a child of being surrounded by the blackness of a huge Universe while growing up in a small town. As a teenager, every Friday night my brother and I would walk home from the only movie theater in our town and try to make our way from one island of light to another in that darkness. We liked the scary movies the best and these islands of light and safety were like lighthouses and safe ports; protecting us from a menacing sea of shadows. And where the light pierced the shadows was where the humans fought to push back the night. These were the Windows of Life.
